The inspiration behind Fragrance du Bois
Fragrance du Bois make gorgeous, complex fragrances that show all the contradictions of modern life: the clash between city and country, the relationship between East and West. Working with a long list of master perfumers, they take inspiration from classic middle Eastern perfumes, sophisticated French fragrances and the natural world.
Fragrance du Bois means “scent of the woods” in French. And these scents really do come from nature. All ingredients are sustainably sourced and many of them are organic. The oud oil in these fragrances is matured for years before it’s ready to use.
But now let’s get to the good stuff: what does Fragrance du Bois actually smell like?
Our favorite scents from Fragrance du Bois
If you’re looking for an introduction to this perfumier, start with London Oud. This scent comes from the Fashion Capitals collection and was originally created as a custom scent for British boxer David Haye. It’s surprisingly fresh, with bright notes of mint, citrus and lavender, developing into deeper woody and spicy notes – just like a London morning fading into evening. This is a good fragrance if you prefer just a dash of oud that doesn’t dominate the scent.
If you prefer a more classic oud scent, then Sahraa is for you. This scent is inspired by the shifting sands and wild winds of the Arabian desert. Opening with a top note of grapefruit, Sahraa is filled out with notes of rose, geranium and patchouli over a base of oud, amber, pepper and sandalwood. This is a big, bold scent from the Privé collection, and it’s worth wearing for a long time to see how the scent develops.
Finally, we just have to recommend Cannabis Bleu: a modern fragrance with a lot to say. This is one of Fragrance du Bois’ latest offerings from the Nature’s Treasures collection. The perfume opens with a fresh mix of cardamom, eucalyptus, pepper and citrus. Next, you’ll notice the scent of nutmeg and cannabis accords, over a classic base of oud, patchouli and cedarwood.
